In His Honor

Today, CFAM honors a gentle and humble man whose life has ended too early in our human eyes.

Ed touched many people around him in more ways than he probably ever knew.  His kindness, meekness, and generosity were spoken large but mostly in the smallest of ways.  And, yet, those ways are the most important; the actions not so easily visible or notable, but are surely remarkable over time.  Like a constant drip of water, pouring out goodness and a servant heart, Ed, you eroded the facade of all that kept us from being human with each other, helping us wash away our sharpest edges and the things of us that make us fake to each other.

Today, we honor you, Ed Mehall.

How Do You Celebrate?

How do you celebrate the big game?  Do you go to your favorite hangout to watch?  Do you get together with a big group of people?  Or do you avoid it all together?

Well, this is how we celebrate and with a great group of people:

And the boy swells with Blue pride!

It's a very snowy morning in West Michigan and a little 8 year-old boy is feeling Blue pride while everyone else exclaims to him, "Happy Birthday!"

This Michigan Wolverine cake is a full layer of rich chocolate cake with creamy chocolate butter frosting, layered with green-colored, and infamous, cream cheese frosting.  The helmet is marble on marble frosted with cream cheese frosting.  The face guard is mostly black fondant and incorporates pretzels for the vertical braces.  Of course, the design of the helmet and Michigan logo is custom-cut blue and yellow fondant.

Custom cakes are always a delight and a chore.  The feeling of accomplishment is better than any of those plastic trophies you used to 'earn' as a kid.  The work it requires to get there seems impossible; however, this baker loves the challenge because the reward is worth it!

The Birthday Girl, Cowgirl Style

Doesn't every little girl want to have a horse?  First, it starts with a doll, then another, then a whole family of dolls.  But when does her request 'graduate' from dolls to horses?

Well, the only Stang this baker is hoping to get is his Mustang - at least initially - but he can definitely give her a cake, horse style.

5-tiered ice cream cake: 1 layer each of cookie dough and cookies-n-cream ice cream sandwiched between 3 layers of chocolate cake and frosted with vanilla and chocolate butter cream and decorated with fondant.

Happy Birthday, my sweet girl!
